((sherry swensk)) some really strong winds overnight that have approached high wind warning criteria. .............. let's check some of those gusts as and keeps the winds cranking through the morning hours. and also ushering in some cooler temps for a couple of days. ............. gusts have exceeded 50 mph in the south end of the valley and even 60 mph out at red rock overnight and early this morning. ............. we should see plenty of sunny skies...

kirsten joyce >> governor sandoval is expected to sign the stadium bill later this morning ... approving 750- million dollars in public money for the nfl arena. ((brian loftus)) >> 8 news now reporter michael stevens is live on u-n-l-v's campus... where the governor will give his john hancock. ((michael stevens)) >> brian, kirsten... the governor is expected to sign the bill around 11-o'clock this morning... right here at u-n-l-v. and some are calling this one of the biggest plays ever made in nevada history. for anyone that's been following the stadium saga... you'll know today marks a major milestone. the senate and assembly passed the stadium bill during a special session last week. assembly- members heard both sides of the argument before

yes votes to 13 no's... barely getting the two-thirds vote required. a lot of issues held up the vote including a controversial n-dot roads report that suggested possibly giving preference to construction projects near the stadium over other work around the valley. those who voted for the stadium say it will help generate thousands of jobs... and give u-n-l-v a new home to play football: ((len jessup // unlv president: this is huge, this is probably one of most difficult fundamental building blocks that we need to have put in place for a top-tier plan so i'm estatic.)) >> the rebels will play in the state of the art nearly two billion-dollar stadium. no other college team in the country can claim that. tax-payers will pay for nearly 40-percent of the stadium... but won't see any of the profits. some lawmakers feel the final decision to approve the stadium bill was rushed and will have ramifications at the polls next month when voters decide whether or not to re-elect many assembly- members back into office.

((brian loftus)) we have new information this morning about a deadly crash that happened on bruce near owens last night. metro police say a 37- year- old man was struck and killed while jaywalking .. investigators say the driver in the vehicle took off.. last seen driving northbound on bruce. this is the 87th person killed in metro's jurisdiction so far this year. if you have any information about this crash .. call crimestopppers./// ((brian loftus)) the man that police say shot randomly at cars along the i-15 this weekend, killing a woman ... is expected to make hfi metro police say the suspect, 29 year- old kenneth mcdonald, shot at least 3 vehicles saturday morning on the freeway near sahara. 48 year old tracey donahue was killed .. her husband was also shot but is in stable condition. shortly after the shooting, police say mcdonald was armed and tried to sexually assault a woman at a cvs near windmill and las vegas boulevard. the suspect then barricaded himself in the building .. after some time, he finally came out ..

exchanged between him and the officers. a few minutes later, mcdonald puts his hands up in the air and is taken down by police and their k9 unit. mcdonald is now charged with murder ... and is expected to face more charges./// ((kirsten joyce)) metro police have identified the officers involved in the deadly shooting of a robbery suspect that led them on a chase across the valley. officers john squeo .. christopher gowens .. travis swartz .. .and erik lindberg are now on paid administrative leave, pending the investigation. officer swartz has been with the department since 2008 .. metro says the officers tried to get the suspect to pull over wednesday night .. but the suspect took off and drove for several miles across town. the suspect finally stopped on 215 near hualapai .. and had a gun .. that's when metro police say the officers were forced to open fire. the suspect died on scene .. his name not yet released./// ((kirsten joyce)) every wednesday, we ask the sheriff questions from the viewers in our morning cup of joe segment in the 6am hour. to submit a question... just go to las vegas now dot

u-s track star has been shot and killed in kentucky. tyson gay's daughter..... 15-year-old trinity was shot in the neck when a group of men in two vehicles began shooting at each other. she was taken to the hospital, where she later died. police say they're now questioning two people of interest .. they're still searching for one of the vehicles involved. trinity was a rising track star .. taking after her father./// ((kirsten joyce)) and "rolling stone" magazine's defamation lawsuit is expected to start today. they're being sued by a former after the magazine's 2014 article about an alleged gang rape. in it .. an anonymous woman said she was raped and beat by several men at a fraternity party in 2012. it was later retracted.. nicole eramo ... who was associate dean of students at the time .. says she believes the article cast her as a villan .. and indicated that she was instrumental in persuading jackie not to report the rape./// ((brian loftus)) a military operation...... to recapture iraq's second largest city from isis control...is now

banks. some people prefer to use things like walmart money cards for their financial needs. that's what cathy chooses to do. she wrote me recently when she bought a prepaid walmart card and put her entire paycheck on it. unfortunately ... fraud was detected on the card ... and her $600 paycheck got caught in the middle. for 2 months she claims she could not get her $600 back from walmart... and she wanted my help. we reached out to the folks who run the walmart bank cards ... and investigating the fraud claims. but soon after our inquiry ... they did cut her a check for $600 dollars .. and also gave her a $50 gift card for the trouble. the lesson here is simple... using those cards in lieu of traditional banking isn't any safer or secure than a traditional bank. in fact walmart money cards are run by a bank... and banking rules apply. that means fraud must be reported within 60 days ... and investigation are long. refunds can take weeks if not

once the stadium bill is signed into law... it clears the way for a new stadium that could be home to both u-n-l-v football and the raiders. you'll remember... lawmakers met in a special session last week narrowly approving the bill that increases the hotel tax to raise the 7-hundred and 50-mil for the new n-f-l facility: ((tommy white // labors union business manager: i was sweating i was going this is coming down to the end it's like all the way down to the 1 yard line somebody's gonna throw us out someway ((michael stevens)) >> the bill passage is also a big win for the las vegas convention and visitors authority. it's giving them more than 400-million dollars to get going on construction to create about 600-thousand square feet of new exhibit space where the riviera once stood. it's also expected to create more than 20-thousand construction and permanent jobs combined.
